Mahjong Scoring System – Earn More Points with Better Hands!
Mahjong has different scoring methods, but the core idea is simple: the more complex and strategic your hand, the higher your points! Here’s a breakdown of how scores are calculated:
Basic Scoring Rules
Standard Win – A basic winning hand gives you 10 points.
Pong of Dragons or Winds – If you complete a Pong (three matching tiles) using dragon or wind tiles, you earn 10-20 points, depending on the set.
Pure Combination – A hand made up entirely of one suit (like all bamboo or all circles) is worth 40-80 points.
Secret Hands – Special hands, such as those consisting entirely of Pongs, can be extremely valuable—worth 50 points or more!
Self-Drawn Win – If you win by drawing the final tile yourself instead of claiming a discard, your total score doubles (2x multiplier).
Winning & Score Distribution
When a player calls “Mahjong”, the other players must pay points based on the game’s rules. Some Mahjong variants have different ways of handling scoring, but the goal stays the same—the player with the strongest hand or the first to complete a winning combination wins the game!
